Time to sign up for Summer 2014!

Posted by on Feb 10, 2014 in News | 28 Comments

The good news: We now have 2 ideas islands in Sweden. In 2013 we bought a second island in Stockholm and we have already had some guests staying. It is an amazing little island just 15 minutes from Stockholm.

It is open from May to September. If you want to get a chance to stay on the island this summer now is the time to apply.

Here is a quote from a guest from last year:

“Ideas Island – where time slows down and creativity speeds up. I came to Ideas Island with a mind full and left mindful.”

(Of course you can also apply to stay on Ideas Island 3!)

What a beautiful island! What generosity of spirit!

I’d like to come! I have the first dawning of a book idea growing in my mind. Idea Island appears to be the perfect spacious container for it to incubate and mature into a whole body, a tangible ‘book’. Space allows grace — Grace allows emergence of miracles. The birth of my book, that has been squished away into a tiny, busy, life (so far) of providing for my own survival, would be a miracle birth. Being granted the opportunity to experience the magical solitude & serenity of Idea Island would be a miracle in itself — that which cannot be easily explained. But, it would be enough — which is the title of my book.

    Dear Sirs/Mesdames,

I am at once excited and humbled by this marvelous opportunity. As a mother, wife, and educator, I have been trying to afford myself the time to work on personal goals and projects, one of which is writing a series of children’s books. Your generous offer would provide me the solace I crave to get my ideas onto paper and begin the process of bringing them to fruition.

I’ve been blessed to have done some travelling in Europe; however, I have not had the privilege of exploring Sweden. The gratitude that I would feel from the experience of setting my feet in unfamiliar terrain would undoubtedly inspire fresh energy and passion that will be channeled into my work.

Thank you kindly for your munificence, and for your consideration.

    Sincerely yours,

    L. Tanya Grant-Allain

    Hello!

My name is Giuseppe, and I am a 21th years old italian boy. I am a dj, producer and arranger of electronic music, with knowledge in synthesizers, digital audio workstations and computer music world in general. I am also an architecture student with a great passion for acoustics and waves theory. I can’t literally stay a minute without spreading out my creativity trough music, paints, ideas, projects, or just finding new books or arguments for my studies. Nowadays is becoming difficult finding a place for keeping my soul, body and mind quiet, to focus in a good way and keeping myself in “entanglement” with people, nature, and why not, common objects, harmonically.
This is what I can tell you, shortly, for giving you an idea of what kind of people I am. I think to be prepared for an experience like this, and also i feel to deserve it.
Anyway thank you for making me able to dream again!
Your project is just “salvifico” (in italian), and I am sure that it is a significant help for creatives all over the world…
    beyond being chosen or not…

    Best regards and good luck!

Hello! I am in love with your idea for this and this opportunity would be a great needed break for me. I have been working on a book (photos & text) this past year, and now into the more intense finishing phases. Afterwords I would like to take some time off to consider my next project and to develop the ideas. These past 6 years I have not had a proper break and find your environment and concept the perfect soil for me to grow!

Please let me know your thoughts when you have time!

    Kind regards,

    Katheirne

    Hi,

This seems too good to be true, what a wonderful gift to others. You surely will go to ‘heaven’ . Good karma…

I’m 35, female, divorced and live at my parents (this is making me sad) and work in the City of London. I’m bursting at the seams with creative project ideas. Here are just a few…

Ok, so I’ve been thinking about starting a website/forum/social platform whereby people could ask for donations (a bit like crowd funding) from the general public to help finance their dreams, be it travel, charity work, education etc. The cash poor, such as myself (I have £500 in my bank account and earn £1,000 per month while doing an internship) can’t afford holidays or that charity stint in developing countries to help others. I don’t have rich parents (like some of my privately educated friends whose parents give them £4,000 a month to live on and they are doing nothing with their lives and unhappy). Whatever it might be from virtuous to frivolous requests the person requesting sponsorship would have to produce a video of themselves outlining their cause and what the money would go to…their pitch if you like. As long as the person is able to demonstrate that the money has been used correctly by way of a video blog or such like this would certainly be a success.

Another idea…I have been in temporary work placements for about 3 years (admin) until last Summer. I had to work for pharmaceutical companies and Google…corporations that I didn’t want to work for but needed the money. Pharma rules the world and unethical and Google is a CIA tool but anyway. (Don’t get me started on the illuminati etc) If there was an ethical recruitment company whose goals and values aligned with say Forbes list of 100 ethical companies it would benefit both parties…sort of like supply chain management. I dislike recruitment companies and haven’t had a positive experience dealing with the sales consultants. This would be inspirational and very much about the people. Even the company would be sustainable as far as possible from the recycled stationary to offsetting carbon footprint by planting trees etc. Perhaps the company could be non hierarchical and run by a collective with equal shares. It needs fleshing out, I only thought of this last week…there is nobody out there doing this to my knowledge from a quick google search.

Help me escape the rat race of London life…..there is more to me that I need to give, show, prove.. I am currently starved and not nourished mentally. With every fibre of my being I want to reach my potential…..and do something good for others like you.

    I eagerly await your response.

I am not an economist….but for some time now, I have wanted to write about how every government cheats its own citizens either in the form of taxes on even essentials or by having a deficit budget or by giving subsidies to the undeserving or by helping corporate interests loot the wealth of the nation or by spending public money on schemes where they have their own vested interests.or by bailing out undeserving elements, etc., etc. Just want to find the time and the space to get this out of my system!

P.S., I am also a travel writer….lots of travel stories still left to be told!

    Hello,
I am interested in this opportunity as I am a writer with very little time to write. I have three children and therefore find myself writing at night, after a full day when I am exhausted.

I would like to develop a collection of poems engaging with the neurological speech condition aphasia to examine questions concerning cultural encounters and our embodied responses to the world. I am concerned with the construction and deconstruction of language, the philosophy behind the mutability of language, and the ways in which speech disturbances might inform and manifest themselves on the page in poetic practice. I would like to explore perceptual and social experiences of aphasia, considering the ways aphasia might inspire artistic expression or experiment beyond its form as a neurological issue. My husband suffers with anomic aphasia, and I will be writing from the perspective of being married to someone with aphasia, and understand it as an involuntary condition which distances its sufferers from the rest of the world. I am hoping to refocus the experience with a denser perception so that non aphasics have more capacity to understand the world of those with language disorders.

If you felt I was a suitable candidate to stay at one of your islands, please don’t hesitate to contact me as I would relish the opportunity!

    All best wishes,

    Dorothy Lehane

i’m working on a comic book. it’s about infinity and history and presents a model of death/the universe based around the concept of creation that (in theory) will encourage people to spend their lives making interesting things rather than just consuming them. its kind of esoteric i guess/its kind of a veiled philosophical manifesto i guess but its also a story i hope is engaging and aesthetically satisfying. im 22 and i graduated from art school and paying rent in nyc means i dont get to dedicate as much time as id like to to my work. it’d be pretty cool to get to live on an island and take a breath and flesh out the rest of the plot and everything/spend days drawing comics and not having to do too much else. um thats all i guess i wont be mad if you dont pick me but i figured it was worth a shot, what you’re doing is cool and worthwhile and thats it i think.

Dear Mr. Fredrik Härén, I have 58 years and I live in Milan. I am a former book designer, with a passion for photography and travel. Since my health deteriorated, I was forced to retire from work. Since 2006 I am separated from my wife, with whom I have lived and live the joy of being a father of a beautiful girl who is now twenty years old, and lives with his mother. Quite simply, if your generous offer was true, it could offer me the opportunity to spend a week with my daughter in a country we have never visited, sharing our passion for photography. If you feel I can provide you with all necessary certificates that attest to the state of my disability. I conclude by thanking you for your attention, and complimenting your initiative. Sincerely.

There are millions of ideas floating around my head during any given day. I guess my main creative talent is writing. I have a mythology book series that I have been trying to work on. But in the last thirteen months I have only been able to write a few pages. I used to write everyday; sometimes I would get whole stories ideas in one fifteen minute setting. I have done all my research. I feel like if I just had a place where I could be free from the cage and restraints of modern technology and a very demanding child… I know you probably have your choice of millions of talented people who have proof of their creativity and ideas. Who are not American. Who are artists. I am just a writer. As such there is no promise that I will ever be rich or be able to donate money. Most writers and artists I know are penniless. Your time and islands would probably be better spent with a group who could freely collaborate. I just want to leave with this note. I think what you are doing is amazing. Creativity has been stifled and needs freedom to be born; set free. The hardest part of being a creative peso. Is when your stiffled by life. No sleep and taking care of a child. These are what stiffle my creativity. I guess my biggest fear is that somehow my creativity will never get to shine. That a single child could squash those ideas I used to have constantly and the talent I have for good. Which would be the biggest shame. Thank you for having such a place for all of us who are creative. It keeps hope alive. K A Petentler

Good day. Why we should visit your island? Because we have two beautiful sons / year 2.12 /, who have never seen the sea. Because currently we do not have funding, because we had to invest in housing and work. I with my husband work as an artistic blacksmiths, husband and I make suggestions and give them to help create. We work with iron, which is difficult but also beautiful work. Last year we had started to build their own work, making us very financially exhausted, we are indebted and we will pay for a long time. Our work is needed inspiration, especially my husband would be shut down, relax, ventilate his head to have enough ideas for further work. If you want I can send you some pictures of our products, designs, and eventually us. Unfortunately we do not finance a vacation, even if it mostly my husband and kids really need. Thank you in advance. Regards Simon Pencáková, Slovakia.

My name is Orven Caster, I have been wracking my brains out on how best to secure financing for project deployment without the financing investor wanting to control ISO Certified Waste to Energy technology that produces 90 mega watts of clean energy from a renewable resource / landfill as its surrogate fuel, while restoring both elements critical to all life , clean water and air
One of the greatest legacies we can leave our children is clean water and air, what’s in your water, ??
I would appreciate the time to relax for a week or so, I have been working on the development and engineering of this technology over several years time to feel life its self

Actually, i’m a designer in fashion accessories, but i think, we don’t need all certificates for be a creator, we just need passion, a place as yours to relax and express himself.
